EOI English Exam Preparation (B2 & C1)

Helping EOI students gain the confidence and exam skills they need to pass.

Many students attend EOI classes for months or even years but still feel uncertain about the speaking exam, mediation tasks or whether they are truly ready for B2 or C1.

I provide personalised one-to-one support to help students understand the exam, build confidence and demonstrate the level they already have.

Having lived and worked in Spain and achieved the DELE C2 and the Institute of Linguists’ Final Diploma in Spanish Translation, I understand many of the challenges Spanish learners face when learning English.

Are you worried about passing your EOI exam?

For many students, the challenge isn’t learning English. It’s demonstrating their level under exam conditions.

You may have attended EOI classes for months or even years. You may read articles, watch films and understand English well. However, when it comes to the exam itself, many students still feel uncertain.

  • You attend EOI classes but rarely get enough speaking practice
  • You understand English well but struggle to express yourself confidently
  • Mediation tasks feel confusing or unpredictable
  • You are not sure whether your level is really B2 or C1
  • You have failed an EOI exam before
  • You need the certificate for work, study or personal goals
  • You know you’re capable of passing, but don’t know what is holding you back

If any of these sound familiar, you’re not alone. Many EOI students already have the knowledge they need but lack the confidence, exam skills or individual feedback required to demonstrate it successfully.

Why EOI Can Be Difficult Even For Strong English Learners

Speaking in an exam is different from speaking in class.

Many students perform well in lessons but feel much less confident during the speaking test. Nerves, time pressure and unfamiliar topics can make it difficult to demonstrate the level you normally use.

Mediation requires a different set of skills.

Many candidates are comfortable with reading, listening and writing but find mediation more challenging. Success depends on selecting relevant information, adapting it for a specific audience and communicating it clearly and naturally.

Understanding English is not the same as using it

Many EOI students read articles, watch films and understand spoken English well. However, understanding English and producing it confidently under exam conditions are two different skills.

Knowing the language and passing the exam are not always the same thing

Many students are surprised to discover that they lose marks not because of their English, but because they misunderstand the task, fail to address the reader’s needs or don’t demonstrate the skills examiners are looking for.

Although EOI is broadly similar to Cambridge exams, the format and tasks are very different in some aspects.

01.

Mediation is unlike any other part of the exam

Many candidates are comfortable with reading, listening and writing but are unsure what examiners expect in mediation tasks. Deciding what information to include, what to leave out and how to adapt it for a specific audience can be challenging.

02.

Speaking exams require confidence as well as language

Many students perform well in class but feel much less confident in the speaking exam. Nerves, unfamiliar topics and the pressure of being assessed can make it difficult to demonstrate the level they normally use.

03.

It can be difficult to know your real level

Many students spend years attending classes without knowing whether they are genuinely ready for B2 or C1. They may be surprised to discover that they are stronger — or weaker — than they thought. Honest feedback can help you identify your strengths, weaknesses and the areas that need the most attention.

04.

Group classes can limit speaking opportunities

Many students participate in class discussions but still feel unprepared for the speaking exam. Being able to answer questions, express opinions and keep a conversation going under exam conditions requires practice.

05.

Knowing English and demonstrating it are different skills

Many students read, listen and understand English well but find it harder to organise and express their ideas clearly during the exam. It’s not just an English exam—it’s understanding how to produce what the examiner is looking for.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about preparing for EOI English with me

Yes. This is one of the most common reasons students contact me. Many learners spend years studying English without knowing whether they are genuinely ready for B2 or C1. I can assess your speaking, writing and overall performance and give you honest feedback about your current level.

Yes. Mediation is one of the areas students most often find confusing. Many candidates are unsure what information to include, what to leave out and what examiners are actually looking for. I can help you understand the task, practise different mediation formats and develop strategies that feel natural rather than formulaic.

Although both are based on CEFR levels such as B2 and C1, the tasks and assessment can be quite different. EOI places particular emphasis on mediation and often uses different speaking and writing formats. If you have previously prepared for Cambridge exams, I’ll help you understand the differences and avoid unpleasant surprises on exam day.

That depends on your current level, your exam date and what you need help with. Some students book a small number of lessons to focus on speaking or mediation, while others prefer longer-term support. During the consultation, I’ll give you an honest opinion about what I think you need.

Many students find that EOI classes don’t always provide enough speaking time or individual feedback. Private lessons allow us to focus entirely on your needs, your weaknesses and the areas that are most likely to affect your result.

You can reschedule or cancel lessons, as long as you do this at least 12 hours before the class.

I need this notice period so I can offer the time slot to another student if they want it.

Yes. If you’re unsure whether you’re ready for B2 or C1, you can book a one-off assessment. We’ll focus on speaking, writing or both, and I’ll give you honest feedback about your current level, strengths, weaknesses and what I think you need to work on before the exam.

The EOI ‘readiness’ 50 minute assessment includes a writing task completed before the session, a simulated speaking assessment and detailed feedback on your strengths, weaknesses and readiness for the exam.

Please note that one-off assessments are charged at a higher rate than lesson packages at £75 per class.

Yes. This is extremely common. Many students can read articles, watch films and understand spoken English but find it much harder to express themselves under pressure. Together we can build confidence, fluency and the ability to respond naturally in speaking tasks.

Yes. I teach in English, to ensure you get to both hear and speak in Englsih but I speak Spanish and hold both the DELE C2 and the Institute of Linguists’ Final Diploma in Spanish Translation. If you’re struggling with a word, expression or grammar point, I can usually explain exactly why the problem is happening—identifying the Spanish word or structure that is causing the problem for you.

Yes.

Many students contact me after narrowly missing the score they needed. Often the issue isn’t their English level but confidence, exam technique, speaking performance or misunderstanding what examiners are looking for.

I normally use Google Meet for our classes, but if you prefer, we can use Microsoft Teams, Skype, or even Whatsapp!

Yes. Speaking is one of the areas I work on most frequently. We can practise discussion tasks, opinion questions, mediation activities and spontaneous conversation so that you feel more confident on exam day.
