Cambridge English Exam Preparation (B2, C1 & C2)

Helping Cambridge candidates gain the confidence and exam skills they need to pass.

Many students have strong English but still struggle with the specific demands of Cambridge exams.

Whether you’re preparing for B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency, I can help you develop the speaking, writing, reading and Use of English skills needed to perform at your best on exam day.

Are you worried about passing your Cambridge exam?

Perhaps:

  • You’ve failed Cambridge before
  • Your English is good but your results don’t reflect it
  • You lose marks in Speaking or Writing
  • You struggle with Reading or Use of English
  • You’re unsure whether you’re really B2, C1 or C2
  • You need a Cambridge qualification for work, university or personal goals
  • You know you’re capable of passing, but don’t know what is holding you back

If any of these sound familiar, you’re not alone. Many EOI students already have the knowledge they need but lack the confidence, exam skills or individual feedback required to demonstrate it successfully.

Why Cambridge Exams Can Be Difficult Even For Strong English Learners

Knowing English and passing Cambridge are different things

Many students communicate effectively in English every day but still struggle with the specific skills Cambridge exams assess.

Use of English is often underestimated

Many candidates focus on speaking and writing but lose valuable marks in Use of English. Grammar, collocations, word formation and precision become increasingly important at B2, C1 and C2.

Reading requires strategy as well as language

Strong English learners sometimes lose marks because they read too quickly, misinterpret key details or fail to recognise what the question is really testing.

Speaking under pressure is different

Even confident speakers can find it difficult to organise ideas, expand answers and demonstrate their full range of language during the exam.

Writing requires more than good grammar

Cambridge examiners assess organisation, register, task achievement and the ability to communicate effectively for a specific audience.

Why am I struggling to pass my Cambridge exam?

Puzzled and confused about why you're not passing your Cambridge exams?

Being successful in your cambridge Exam is not just about being good at English; you need to have good exam techniques and strategies as well.

01.

Use of English is harder than many students expect

At B2, C1 and especially C2, success depends on far more than grammar. Word formation, collocations, fixed expressions and precision all play a major role.

02.

Reading tests more than comprehension

Many candidates understand the text but still choose the wrong answer because they miss subtle clues or misunderstand the question.

03.

It can be difficult to know your real level

Many learners believe they are C1 because they communicate comfortably at work. Others underestimate their abilities. Honest feedback can help you understand where you really stand.

04.

Speaking in class is not the same as speaking in an exam

Many students can hold conversations comfortably but struggle when they must respond under pressure, expand ideas and demonstrate a range of language.

05.

Knowing English and demonstrating it are different skills

Cambridge exams reward candidates who can demonstrate their level consistently across all papers, not just those who understand English well.

Have C1 English discussion online and pass C1 Advanced and IELTS speaking

Would you prefer to focus on speaking?

I offer one-to-one lessons covering all four parts of the Cambridge exam: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

However, if you would prefer to focus on developing your speaking skills, you can join my online C1 English Discussion Group. Each group has 4–8 students, giving you plenty of opportunities to improve your fluency, expand your vocabulary and discuss interesting topics with other advanced English speakers.

The Discussion Group is suitable for strong B2 and C1 learners, including Cambridge candidates aiming for a higher band score. Please note that it focuses on developing your overall spoken English rather than practising Cambridge exam tasks.

The Advanced English Discussion Group

Want to speak English more confidently and express complex ideas more clearly?

Join a small, supportive online discussion group for B2–C1 learners. We meet weekly to explore real-world topics such as technology, work, society, culture and current affairs.

  • Become more confident agreeing, disagreeing and responding spontaneously
  • Improve the speaking skills needed for C1 Advanced, IELTS and professional communication

    FAQs

Frequently asked questions about preparing for Cambridge Assessment English exams with me

That depends on your current level, your target exam and how much time you have available.

Some students book 4–8 lessons to focus on specific areas such as Speaking, Writing or Use of English. Others prefer longer-term support over several months.

In my experience, students who prepare consistently over six months or more often make the biggest improvements, particularly when moving from B2 to C1 or from C1 to C2. Developing confidence, fluency and exam skills takes time, and there are no shortcuts.

During our consultation, I’ll give you an honest opinion about what I think you need and whether your goals are realistic within your timeframe.

Yes. Many students spend years studying English without knowing whether they are genuinely ready for their target exam. I can assess your speaking, writing and overall performance and give you honest feedback about your current level and what you need to work on next.

Yes. I can provide detailed feedback on essays, reports, reviews, proposals and other Cambridge writing tasks. We’ll look at organisation, task achievement, grammar, vocabulary, register and what examiners are actually looking for.

Yes. If you’d like to experience the speaking exam before the real thing, I can run a mock speaking test and provide detailed feedback on your performance, strengths and areas for improvement.

This is one of the most common frustrations for Cambridge candidates. Many students have good grammar and a strong vocabulary but still struggle with open cloze, word formation and key word transformations. Often the issue isn’t knowledge but recognising patterns, collocations and what the question is really testing.

Absolutely. Many students contact me after narrowly missing the score they need. Often the problem isn’t their overall English level but specific weaknesses in Speaking, Writing or Use of English. Together we can identify what went wrong and focus on the areas most likely to improve your result.

Frustrated with your English exam preparation progress? Struggling to pass?

Many students find the move from B2 to C1 more challenging than they expect. At C1, examiners are looking for greater flexibility, more sophisticated vocabulary and the ability to develop ideas in more depth. However, with the right preparation, it is a very achievable goal.

C2 is not simply a harder version of C1. At C2, the challenge is often precision, nuance and naturalness rather than grammar. Candidates need to demonstrate a high level of flexibility and control across all papers.

Yes. This is very common. Some students are confident speakers but struggle to organise their ideas in writing, while others have the opposite problem. Lessons can be tailored to focus on the skills that need the most attention.

Using English professionally is a great advantage, but Cambridge exams test specific skills and exam techniques. Many candidates communicate effectively at work but still lose marks because they don’t demonstrate the range, precision or task-specific skills examiners are looking for.

That depends on your current level, your target exam and how much time you have available. Some students book a small number of lessons to focus on specific areas, while others prepare over several months. During the consultation, I’ll give you an honest opinion about what I think you need.

Yes. All lessons take place online and include the same personalised support, feedback and exam preparation you would receive in person.
